It’s been about a week since news broke of Katy Perry and John Mayer’s third breakup. We soon saw warring photos of the aftermath: Katy hid her face from the paps while John looked super relieved and happy to be officially single. No one seemed to be too surprised at the outcome of this relationship except for Katy. What did she expect would happen from playing the ring game after Valentine’s day? My guess was that John started acting like a d-bag after Katy pulled that stunt, and he basically forced her to break up with him.
Now the various tabloids are ready to add their takes on the breakup. Let’s tidy this up with some bullet points:
* In Touch is running a full cover story about the breakup. Their take is that Katy was insanely paranoid about John cheating while she was on tour. The tabloid says John’s been cheating for awhile already. He recently hit on a SoulCycle instructor and was “acting single” all evening before kissing her at a bar. In Touch also adds that John wanted to marry Katy: “He pressured her. He gave her a ring and made the relationship more serious, which scared her because of his past.” What? Here’s the thing: Whenever John does get married, he’ll probably cheat on his wife. He knows this, so it’s somewhat believeable that he’d cheat on Katy and still want to marry her. This could also be a tale straight from Katy’s team.
* People says John and Katy broke up for the following reason: “They’re two very strong-willed people. Despite caring about each other very much and wanting to make it work, they are, at their core, quite different.” Katy wanted to go to parties, and John just wanted to hang out (and bang) at home. Sort of like Katy and Russell Brand’s marriage ended up (not) working out. In the end, Katy used her tour as an excuse to cut things off.
* This week’s issue of Star magazine says “John isn’t exactly torn up over being dumped – he’s gotten fed up with the 29-year-old’s partying and how she constantly wears a diamond ring on her left hand to create relationship buzz. ‘They have completely broken up and he’s moved out,’ the source adds. ‘Katy is a wreck.’” I believe this story the most. Katy is also good at hiding her frustration with a relationship. She seemed perky while slamming Miley’s tongue during yesterday’s Aussie interview. BUT this is the same girl who smiled brightly for her audience 5 minutes after receiving a divorce text from Russell Brand. Make no mistake — she is devastated over douchey John.
